Description

Big Beers, Belgians & Barleywines Festival hosts a variety of seminars on Saturday. The first session schedule is as follows:

Brewmaster's Track I: Glucoamylase: From Brute to Brut by Steve Breezley of Ska Brewing Company.
Saturday 11:30–12:20 pm Location: Summit Gallery, Peaks 9 & 10, Beaver Run Conference Center.
This presentation will discuss the evolution in the use of glucoamylase from the making of “light” beers by the big brewers, to ultra-high gravity beers with % abv’s nearing 20%, all the way to today’s popular Brut IPA style.

Technical Seminar Track I: “Yeast Health and Viability in High Gravity and Sour Beers” with John Giarratano of Inland Island Yeast Co. and fellow panelists TBA.
Saturday 11:30–12:20 pm  Location: Imperial Ballroom, Beaver Run Conference Center.
Through a combination of experimentation, brewer’s notes and years of fermentation data, this presentation dives into the most important factor in fermenting beer of any kind…YEAST.  More specifically, how yeast health is affected by high gravity and low pH fermentations as well as best practices for bottle conditioning.

Sensory Workshop Track I: “Foraging For Beer” with John Holl, Senior Editor, Craft Beer & Brewing Magazine. Panelists will include TBD.
Saturday 11:30–12:20 pm  Location: Base 9 Bar, Beaver Run Resort
From berries to mushrooms, wild-foraged hops, and common yard flowers, brewers are adding exciting aromas and flavors from ingredients that are found all around us. Join John Holl and a diverse group of brewers who will talk about how to find ingredients and properly incorporate them into recipes.

Random Track I: “Sensory Exploration: Sometimes You Just Want a Beer” with Dr. Nicole Garneau, DraughtLab, LLC.
Saturday 11:30–12:20 pm  Location: Summit Gallery, Peaks 11- 12, Beaver Run Conference Center
Learning to taste and dissect the good, the bad and the greatest of beers is a rite of passage for brewers and beer connoisseurs alike. But sometimes you just want a beer. Join Dr. Nicole Garneau in this humor-filled talk where we’ll cover the tasting techniques for any situations. You’ll walk away knowing how to taste like a scientist, savor like an artist, and kick back without judgement.

Don't forget to purchase tickets to each seminar in advance and there is only limited seating available!
